Apartment block at Lidingö, Stockholm The apartment block is designed to enrich the homogeneous 1960’s housing area with a new type of building. The project is further designed to articulate the small local square. One facade faces the square and the gap between it and the road and the neighbouring house to the south is narrowed. The east and west parts of the house are elevated on pillars in order to enhance the contact between the square and the green area to the east. The only 7.3 m broad wings of the house surround a courtyard. Sixty well-lit apartments served by four stairwells accessible from the interior of the block are created. There are two-, three- and four-room apartments of different shapes, all with at least a balcony and some with a terrace. On the south and north facades the terraces occupy a double-high space. The eight apartments on the top floors share the space on the roof of the east and west wing. Most apartments have living rooms facing both sides, with the main communications on the side of the courtyard.
